Scheduled, Simultaneous Dosing of Pregabalin, Celecoxib, and Acetaminophen Markedly Reduces or Eliminates Opioid Use After ACL Reconstruction Using Allograft or Hamstring Tendon Autograft: A Randomized Clinical Trial

One hundred patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with either an allograft or hamstring tendon autograft for ACL ruptures were randomized to either a blister pack of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs; n=50) or ibuprofen and opioids (n=50). Outcomes of interest were nausea, itching, and pain measured using the Verbal Numeric Rating Scale (VNRS) and oxycodone consumption after 6 days. No significant pairwise differences were apparent throughout the 6-day period for oxycodone use and pain scores. Nausea and itching were significantly lower in the blister pack group.
