The effect of micro-movement on prevention of intraoperative acquired pressure injury in overweight patients undergoing posterior lumbar surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
J Orthop Surg Res . 2024 Dec 4;19(1):823.Two hundred seventy-seven overweight patients undergoing posterior lumbar surgery were randomized to receive either intraoperative micro-movement (n = 137) or silicone foam dressings (n = 140). The primary outcome was the incidence of intraoperative acquired pressure injury (IAPI). Secondary outcomes included the stage, duration, and location of pressure injuries. Outcomes were assessed postoperatively. Overall, the results of the study revealed that micro-movement significantly reduced IAPI incidence. There were no significant differences in IAPI staging, duration, or location. The findings suggest that micro-movement is a simple, effective method for reducing IAPI in this population.
