Effect of Local Mud Application in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis .
Effect of local mud application in patients with knee osteoarthritis - A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Int J Biometeorol . 2024 Oct;68(10):1923-1934.This systematic review and meta-analysis included 10 randomized controlled trials involving 520 patients with knee osteoarthritis. It compared the effects of local mud application to control interventions, focusing on outcomes such as pain (assessed using the Visual Analog Scale, VAS) and functional status (evaluated using the WOMAC scale). Pooled results showed significant pain reduction and improved WOMAC scores in the mud therapy group. These findings suggest that local mud application is an effective supplementary intervention for pain relief and functional improvement in knee osteoarthritis, although further high-quality research is needed.
