With accompanying exercise therapy, kinesiology taping does not appear to significantly improve pain, function or posture compared to exercise therapy with placebo taping. However, the the lack of reporting of the duration of taping and number of exercise sessions does not allow for the assessment of treatment compliance.
Study Summary
36 patients with round shoulder posture and shoulder impingement syndrome were randomized to receive an exercise protocol with either kinesiology taping or placebo taping with no tension. Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), shoulder angle and the Flexilevel Scale of Shoulder Function (FLEX-SF). Follow up was performed at 2 and 4 weeks post-treatment. Results revealed no significant group differences over time between the two groups in all outcomes.
