Eighty-four patients with primary frozen shoulder were randomized to receive ultrasound-guided capsule-preserving hydrodilatation with 5% dextrose water (D5W) or corticosteroid (triamcinolone 40 mg + saline). The primary outcome of interest was the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI). Secondary outcomes included pain intensity (NRS), shoulder active range of motion (ROM), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use, and patient satisfaction. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 1 day, and 1, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after the first injection. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both groups showed significant improvements in pain, function, and ROM over time, with no significant differences between groups. These findings suggest that D5W hydrodilatation is noninferior to corticosteroid injections and may serve as a viable alternative treatment.
