Effect of Different Physiotherapeutic Interventions in Plantar Fasciitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Twenty-one studies including 1196 patients with plantar fasciitis were included in comparing various physiotherapeutic interventions such as extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), kinesiology taping, laser therapy, and manual therapy vs. control or alternative treatments. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain (VAS) and function (FFI). At the 1-month follow-up, physiotherapy showed a non-significant trend toward pain reduction with high heterogeneity, while functional outcomes showed no improvement. Overall, physiotherapy may offer modest short-term pain relief but limited functional benefit, with ESWT and kinesiology taping appearing to be the most promising.
