Utility of Modern Arthroscopic Simulator Training Models

Epub 2013 Nov 28.This systematic review analyzed 19 studies involving 465 participants with varying degrees of orthopaedic experience, to determine whether arthroscopic simulators improve simulator and operative technical skills. Common arthroscopic tasks assessed in these studies included throwing a suture, probing, hook manipulation, and shaving/burning. An analysis of results suggested arthroscopic simulators improve performance on arthroscopic simulators, but did not reach a conclusion on whether simulator training correlated to improved performance in the operating room.
