J Back Musculoskelet Rehabil. 2026 01-Jan:. 10.1177/10538127251352977Study Summary
50 patients with degenerative meniscal tears were randomized to receive a physiotherapist-supervised neuromuscular exercise program or a home-based exercise program. The primary outcomes of interest included pain (VAS), knee function (KOOS-PS), and quality of life (WOMET). Secondary outcomes included activity level (Tegner Scale), balance, and jump performance. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and after 6 weeks of treatment. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both groups showed significant improvements across all outcomes; however, the supervised neuromuscular exercise group demonstrated greater improvements in several functional and quality-of-life measures. These findings suggest that physiotherapist-supervised neuromuscular exercise provides superior rehabilitation outcomes compared to home-based exercise programs.
