48 male patients (age range 17-44 yr) undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with an ipsilateral bone-patellar tendon-bone autograft were randomized to start an isometric strengthening of hamstring muscles at 3 or 9 week after surgery. Results of this study indicated that male patients, receiving isokinetic hamstring training in the early postoperative period, exhibited better hamstring strength, improved function, fewer symptoms and more IKDC ratings towards normal knee laxity.
