Dr. Roberto Seijas discusses the early beneficial effect of platelet-rich plasma on graft remodelling in ACL reconstruction
100 patients who were scheduled for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with a patellar tendon autograft were randomized to determine the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on graft remodelling. Participants were allocated to reconstruction with or without injection of PRP into the suprapatellar joint, and were followed-up for 12 months postoperatively. MRI findings indicated that at 4- and 6-month follow-up, there was a marked benefit of PRP on graft remodelling. At the 12-month follow up, the difference between groups was non-significant.
