Incidence of femoral component misalignment reduced with navigated hip resurfacing .
The First SICOT Oral Presentation Award 2011: Imageless computer-assisted femoral component positioning in hip resurfacing: a prospective randomised trial
Int Orthop. 2013 Apr;37(4):569-81. doi: 10.1007/s00264-012-1762-8. Epub 2013 Feb 675 patients were randomized to determine the effect of computer-navigation on component positioning accuracy of the femoral component in hip resurfacing. After being randomized to either computer-navigated or conventional surgery, patients were followed-up at 6 months postoperatively. Results indicated that the incidence of femoral component malposition was lower in patients who had received computer-assisted implantation, although clinical outcome was not significantly different. One patient who received navigated implantation was observed to have a major complication at 6 weeks postoperatively.
