Total Hip Arthroplasty Performed Through Direct Anterior Approach Provides Superior Early Outcome: Results of a Randomized, Prospective Study

75 patients (84 hips) scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to undergo the procedure using either a direct anterior approach or a direct lateral approach. The purpose of this study was to compare patient-reported function and functional performance over a 1-year follow-up, as well as perioperative outcomes between groups. The groups were reported to differ at early follow-up time points (1 day - 1 week) in both functional performance and patient-reported functional measures, though differences between groups at 1-year were reported to be not significant.
