Effects of whole body cryo-chamber therapy on pain in patients with chronic low back pain: a prospective double blind randomised controlled trial

64 patients with chronic low back pain were randomized to receive cryo-chamber treatment at either -67 degrees Celsius or -5 degrees Celsius for 3 minutes per day over two weeks, to analyze whether cryo-chamber therapy is effective in patients with low back pain. Pain intensity was assessed before and after intervention and both treatments provided significant pain reductions in comparison to baseline measures; however, there were no significant differences between groups. Further clinical trials are needed to determine the efficacy of cryotherapy in comparison to a placebo or control group that does not receive treatment.
