Comparison of intra-articular ozone and steroid injection in patients with adhesive capsulitis.

Forty patients with MRI/ultrasound-confirmed adhesive capsulitis were randomized to receive intra-articular ozone (eight sessions; n=20) or a single intra-articular betamethasone injection (n=20). The primary outcome was pain (VAS). Secondary outcomes were SPADI and active/passive ROM. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 4 weeks, and 12 weeks by a blinded assessor. Overall, the results revealed significant within-group improvements in VAS, SPADI, and ROM through 12 weeks, with no between-group differences. These findings suggest that an eight-session ozone regimen achieved improvements comparable to a single steroid injection over 12 weeks.
