Early Functional Recovery Is Improved in Patients Treated With Bioinductive Collagen Implant Augmentation Compared With Standard Arthroscopic Repair of High-grade Partial-Thickness Rotator Cuff Tears: A Prospective Randomized Trial.

41 patients with high-grade partial-thickness rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive either a standard rotator cuff repair or an arthroscopic bioinductive collagen implant augmentation procedure. The primary outcome of interest was the Western Ontario Rotator Cuff Index (WORC), a rotator cuff-specific quality of life questionnaire. Secondary outcomes included additional patient-reported outcomes, radiological outcomes, and time to return to various activities. Results revealed significantly better WORC scores in the first 3 months post-operation in the arthroscopic bioinductive collagen implant augmentation group; secondary patient-reported outcome measures were also superior in this group in the first 6 weeks. Patients who received an arthroscopic bioinductive collagen implant augmentation removed their sling and return to work and daily living activities much faster than those who received a standard rotator cuff repair.
