Orthop Surg. 2024 01-Jul;():. 10.1111/os.14103Study Summary
Five randomized controlled trials including 339 patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing computerized-assisted TKA vs. traditional TKA. Pooled outcomes of interest included monthly rate of change in Knee Society Score (KSS), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), postoperative functional outcomes, radiographic alignment, and patient-reported recovery measures. Although the traditional and computerized groups demonstrated statistically different mean monthly changes in KSS and WOMAC individually, pooled meta-analysis showed no significant differences between approaches for either outcomes. Overall, the findings suggest that computerized-assisted and traditional TKA provide comparable short- to medium-term functional and patient-reported outcomes, while emphasizing the need for larger studies with longer follow-up periods.
