Comparison of cognitive functional therapy and movement system impairment treatment in chronic low back pain patients: a randomized controlled trial.

91 patients with chronic low back pain were randomized to receive an 8-week cognitive functional therapy (CFT) program (n=45) or movement system impairment (MSI)-based treatment program (n=46). The primary outcome of interest was pain intensity, measured on a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The secondary outcomes of interest included disability, kinesiophobia, and gait kinetics measured via vertical ground reaction force (VGRF) parameters. Outcomes were assessed at 8 weeks and 6 months follow-up. The CFT group demonstrated greater improvements in all outcomes, at all time-points compared to the MSI-based treatment group.
