Sling Versus Abduction Brace Shoulder Immobilization After Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Orthop J Sports Med. 2023 Aug; 11(8): 23259671231185368.Four RCTs with a total of 224 patients who underwent an arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing abduction bracing and sling immobilization. The outcomes of interest included Constant-Murley Scores (CMS), pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and re-tear rate. The meta-analysis results found no significant difference between the two groups in pooled CMS scores up to 12 months, VAS pain scores up to 12 weeks, and re-tear rate up to 3 months follow-up. The findings from this study suggest no difference in clinical outcomes between abduction bracing and sling immobilization, however, future studies are needed to further explore this topic.
