A Prospective Randomized Multicentre Evaluation of a “New” MIS Approach to THA: Stem Subsidence an Issue?
156 patients requiring total hip arthroplasty were randomized to undergo a "new" anterolateral Minimally Invasive Surgical (MIS) approach or the "standard" limited incision procedure. Evaluation over a 24 months period indicated that the "new" anterolateral approach did not result in superior clinical outcomes. Additionally, this novel approach may lead to increases in painful stem subsidence and fracture when compared to the standard limited incision technique.
