Metal on Metal versus Polyethylene in Total Hip Arthroplasty: Ten-Year Results of a Randomized Clinical Trial
41 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive metal on metal (MoM) or metal on polyethylene (MoP) bearing surfaces. Over 10 years, there were no differences between the two groups for clinical or radiographic outcomes. The MoM group displayed significantly greater median levels of erythrocyte cobalt, urine cobalt, and urine chromium than the MoP group at the final follow-up.
