2018 COA Annual Meeting: A Prospective Comparative Study on Functional Outcome of Core Decompression Plus Stem Cell Therapy versus Core Decompression Alone in Treatment of a Vascular Necrosis of Hip Joint Grade II & III a Clinical Follow up for 2 Years

40 patients with grade II-III avascular necrosis of the femoral head were randomized to core decompression with or without the addition of intraarticular stem cell injections. Patients were assessed after 12 and 24 months for outcome on the Oxford Hip Score and Harris Hip Score measures. Within-group improvement for both groups was significant for each of the OHS and HHS. Between groups, improvement from baseline at 12 and 24 months for both measures was reported to be significantly greater in the group which received intraarticular stem cell injections compared to the group which did not.
