2024 COA Annual Meeting: Navigated Versus Conventional Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Prospective Randomized Controlled Trials

Twenty studies with patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing conventional TKA vs. navigated TKA. Pooled outcomes of interest included radiographic alignment, revision, and functional outcomes. The pooled results showed that navigated TKA achieved significantly better alignment in the coronal planes for both tibial and femoral components, and in the sagittal plane for the tibial component only. However, there was no significant difference in short-term clinical survivorship or functional outcomes between the two techniques. These findings suggest that while navigated TKA offers improved radiographic alignment, the clinical and functional benefits remain similar to conventional TKA.
