2024 COA Annual Meeting: Efficacy of a Non-Surgical Treatment Protocol for Patients With Symptomatic Femoro-Acetabular Impingement: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Sixty-two patients with symptomatic femoro-acetabular impingement were randomized to receive either an 8-week home-based exercise program focused on posterior pelvic tilt (n=38) or usual care (n=32). Outcomes of interest included function (iHOT-33), quality of life (EQ-5D-5L), and pain (Visual Analog Scale). Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 9 weeks, and 6 months. Overall, the results of the study revealed no statistically significant differences between the intervention and control groups in terms of pain, function, or quality of life at both 9 weeks and 6 months. These findings suggest that the home-based exercise program did not provide additional benefits over usual care in this patient population.
