2022 COA Annual Meeting : Fix or replace? Acute reverse total shoulder arthroplasty versus plate osteosynthesis in the management of acute proximal humerus fractures in the elderly: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Four studies were included in this meta-analysis comparing reverse total shoulder arthroplasty and open reduction and internal fixation for the treatment of acute proximal humerus fractures. Pooled outcomes of interest included patient-reported outcomes, range of motion, and re-operation rates. Pooled results revealed significantly better Constant scores and a lower likelihood of re-operation in the reverse shoulder arthroplasty group vs. open reduction and internal fixation. However, pooled range of motion in external rotation was significantly better in the open reduction and internal fixation group.
