2015 COA Annual Meeting: Minimally Invasive Anterior Approach vs Posterior Approach in Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Prospective Randomized Study

55 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to undergo either a minimally invasive anterior approach or minimally invasive posterior approach. The purpose of the study was to compare the two techniques in terms of safety, function, and radiographic outcomes. Findings indicated that while the anterior approach resulted in a quicker return of function, long term results were comparable between the groups. Further, a statistically significantly increase in surgical time was noted in the anterior approach group.
