An RCT Examining the Effect of Adductor-canal Peripheral Nerve Block with Periarticular Infiltration vs. Adductor-canal Nerve Block Only vs. Periarticular Infiltration Only
159 patients undergoing unilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to receive both an adductor canal (AC) peripheral nerve block and periarticular infiltration (PI), or one of the interventions on its own. The purpose of the study was to determine which protocol was optimal in managing pain without hindering motor ability. Findings indicated that using the combined protocol was most effective in relieving pain while walking. Additionally patients who received only a PI consumed the most patient controlled analgesia.
