Epub 2007 Nov 13.2483 patients were recruited to two parallel studies in North America (NA) and Europe (EU) to assess the effect of the structure modifying anti-OA drug, risedronate, on bone and cartilage degradation markers and radiological progression of OA. At 6 months, there was a dose-dependent induced reduction in markers of cartilage and bone degradation that was maintained until 24 months follow-up. Radiological progression of knee OA, as measure by change in joint space width (JSW), was associated with CTX-II levels throughout the study.
