Arthroplasty more clinically and cost-effective than reduction & fixation for hip fracture .

OE Journal. 2013;1(12):250 J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2006 Feb;88(2):249-60299 healthy older patients with displaced intracapsular fractures were randomised to undergo one of three surgical procedures. The three methods of treatment were reduction and fixation, bipolar hemiarthroplasty with cement, and total hip replacement with cement. The primary outcomes were hip function, clinical results, and healthcare costs. The results of this study indicated that the arthroplasty procedure was more clinically advantageous and more cost effective compared to the other two procedures.
