Annulus Closure Device Implantation in Lumbar Discectomy: A Meta-analysis .
The effectiveness and safety of annulus closure device implantation in lumbar discectomy for patients with lumbar disc herniation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Eur Spine J . 2023 Jul;32(7):2377-2386.Five randomized controlled trials comparing the safety and efficacy of discectomy with or without an annulus closure device (ACD) in patients with lumbar disc herniation were included in this meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included re-operation, re-herniation, serious adverse events, leg and back pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Short Form 12-Item Health Survey (SF-12) physical component score, operative time, and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores. There was a decrease in re-herniation and reoperation rates as well as serious adverse events in the ACD group. Surgical time was significantly better in the group that did not receive ACD. All other outcomes were similar between the two groups.
