74 trials evaluating the efficacy of hyaluronic acid products in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis were included in the current meta-analysis. The purpose of this study was to examine results associated with pain relief at 3 months for hyaluronic acid products and placebo. Meta-analysis demonstrated a significantly lower pain by 10.20mm on a visual analog scale for hyaluronic acid groups, overall, compared to placebo, though a unit-of-analysis error was present. Subgroup analysis of different HA products versus placebo demonstrated variable effects sizes, though no consistent, statistically significant benefit across products.
