An Evidence Based Tailored eHealth Patient Education Tool For Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis .
An evidence-based tailored eHealth patient education tool for patients with knee osteoarthritis: A randomized controlled trial.
Digit Health. 2025 Feb 5:11:20552076251317230.Two hundred eighteen patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either an evidence-based eHealth education tool (n=109) or usual care (n=109). The primary outcome of interest was the proportion of correct responses on the Patient Knowledge Questionnaire for Osteoarthritis (PKQ-OA). Secondary outcomes of interest included patient satisfaction with the tool, perceived utility, trust in providers, and engagement with the educational content. Outcomes were assessed post-intervention and at 1-, 3-, and 6-month follow-ups. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the eHealth group had significantly higher knowledge scores post-intervention (P=0.001), and more patients in this group scored above 50% (P<0.001). While knowledge differences narrowed over time, the eHealth tool was highly valued and well-received. These findings suggest that a guideline-based, digitally delivered education platform can effectively enhance short-term knowledge and satisfaction in KOA patients.
