Does accelerometer-based portable navigation provide more accurate and precise cup orientation without prosthetic impingement than conventional total hip arthroplasty? A randomized controlled study

Sixty patients with hip osteoarthritis, undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomized to either the accelerometer-based navigation group (n=30) or the conventional navigation group (n=30). The primary outcome of this trial was to determine the accuracy and precision of the cup orientation. Secondary outcomes such as range of motion in flexion and extension were measured. The results of this trial showed significant differences in the mean cup anteversion with better scores in the accelerometer navigation group. Mean cup anteversion error was also significantly better in the accelerometer navigation group.
