2018 AAOS Annual Meeting: The Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma and Platelet-Rich Fibrin in Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Control Trials

Eighteen randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis assessing the efficacies of platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin interventions in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. In comparing to control, platelet-rich plasma groups demonstrated lower rates of incomplete tendon healing and significant differences in their favour for pain scores, Constant scores, and UCLA score. The only outcome measure reported that did not significantly differ between PRP and control groups was the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score. Meta-analysis of incomplete tendon healing rate demonstrated no significant difference between platelet-rich fibrin groups and control groups.
