2018 AAOS Annual Meeting: Tranexamic Acid Reduces Blood Loss Following Primary Shoulder Arthroplasty: A Double- Blind Placebo-Controlled Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial

OE Journal. 2018;6(7):9110 patients scheduled for total shoulder arthroplasty were randomized to intravenous administration of either tranexamic acid or placebo saline. Patients were assessed for total blood loss, transfusion rate, hemoglobin loss, length of stay, and venous thromboembolic complications. Results demonstrated a significant reduction in total blood loss in the TXA group compared to the placebo group. There were no differences in the incidence of transfusion as no patients required transfusion.
