Vitamin D3 Supplementation Prior to Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Controlled Trial
107 patients undergoing an elective total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive a single 50,000 IU capsule of Vitamin D3 on the morning of surgery (n=57) or placebo (n=50). The primary outcome of interest was functional component scores on the Knee Society Score (KSS), measured at 3 and 6 weeks post-operation. Secondary outcomes of interest included the timed up and go test and 90-day complications. No differences in all outcomes were observed between the two groups.
