2016 AAOS Annual Meeting: 10-Year Results of a Randomized Clinical Trial of Mobile-Bearing vs. Fixed-Bearing Total Knee Arthroplasty

OE Journal. 2016;4(6):9235 patients who underwent cemented total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to receive either a polyethylene fixed-bearing, metal-backed fixed-bearing, or a mobile-bearing total knee arthroplasty. The purpose of this study was to compare fixed and mobile-bearing TKAs in terms of durability, range of motion, and function over a long-term, 10-year, follow-up. The results displayed no significant differences between the 3 groups in all measured outcomes at 10 years, suggesting a comparable long-term efficacy of both prosthesis types.
