2015 AAHS Annual Meeting: Wrist ganglion treatment: systematic review and meta-analysis

35 studies, containing a total of 2239 ganglia, were used for the systematic review, and 6 studies were analyzed through a meta-analysis. This was done to assess clinical outcomes of wrist ganglia treatments, and to allow for a comparison of the most popular options: open surgical excision, and aspiration. The results of the study indicated that open surgical excision allows for low rates of recurrence, but high risks of complications, while aspiration leads to significantly higher rates of recurrence, but lower risks of complications. Results of the systematic review indicated that arthroscopic excision has both the lowest rates of recurrence, and the lowest risks of complications form available evidence.
