2014 AAHS Annual Meeting : The Quality of Hand and Elbow Related Randomized Controlled Trials: A Critical Analysis of Current Literature

OE Journal. 2013;1(20):963 RCTs completing research on hand or elbow orthopaedic topics were analyzed to determine if current randomized control trials, regarding hand and elbow treatment, are performed in a manner that allow for high quality evidence reporting. The results of the review indicated that although there has been an improvement in RCTs over the last decade, a large number of studies are still found to be “poor” based on the Modified Coleman Methodology Score and Jadad scale. Common methodological deficiencies in these studies were: A lack of power analysis, lack of withdrawal and drop out description, and failure to use validated outcome assessments.
