Multi-center RCT on Manipulation Under Anesthesia With and Without IV Steroids and PO Celecoxib
131 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) with physical therapy (PT) were randomized to receive either IV dexamethasone and oral celecoxib or no anti-inflammatory medications. Outcomes of interest included range of motion (ROM), Knee Society Score (KSS), Short-Form Questionnaire (SF-12), Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), and Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) at six weeks and one year. The use of dexamethasone and celecoxib after MUA + PT did not show any benefits compared to MUA + PT alone for TKA.
