A Meta-analysis of Patellar Replacement in Total Knee Arthroplasty
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. 2005:432. 196-203.A meta-analysis was conducted to compare patella retention versus patellar replacement in total knee arthroplasty. Twelve studies were considered (n= 1490) involving patients with nonresurfacing (n=737) and patients with resurfacing (n=753). The combined results of these studies suggest that resurfacing led to a lower risk for complications although this was not reflected in knee function scores or patient satisfaction.
