2016 AAOS Annual Meeting: A Prospective Trial of Interscalene Nerve Block versus Suprascapular Nerve Block in Outpatient Rotator Cuff Repair

104 outpatients undergoing rotator cuff repair were randomized to receive either a interscalene nerve block or a percutaneous suprascapular nerve block. The study was conducted in order to compared efficacy and safety for postoperative analgesia between the two nerve blocks. No significant differences in pain scores, opioid analgesic consumption or patient satisfaction were observed between groups, and no adverse events were reported in either group. Wait time within the operating room prior to surgery was 15 minutes longer in the interscalene nerve block group compared to the suprascapular nerve block group..
