Single-bone intramedullary fixation of unstable both-bone diaphyseal forearm fractures in children leads to increased re-displacement: a multicentre randomised controlled trial

OE Journal. 2013;1(16):50 Arch Orthop Trauma Surg. 2013 Aug;133(8):1079-8724 children, age 16 or younger, with displaced unstable diaphyseal both-bone forearm fractures were randomized into one of two treatment groups to compare the effectiveness of single bone or both-bone intramedullary fixation. The results demonstrated no difference in median limitation of pronation/supination between the groups, but did show an increased chance of fracture re-displacement and post-operative complications in children undergoing single-bone fixation (9 months after treatment).
