Ergometer cycling after hip or knee replacement surgery: a randomized controlled trial
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2010 Apr;92(4):814-22362 patients who had undergone unilateral primary total hip arthroplasty or total knee arthroplasty were randomized to go through either a standard daily rehabilitation or a combination of ergometer cycling along with standard daily physiotherapy. At the study conclusion, the ergometer cycling has been proven to be a cost effective option to enhance quality of life and patient satisfaction in patients after total hip arthroplasty. Statistical and clinical significance was demonstrated favoring ergometer combination training over the control group post total hip arthroplasties for all the outcome measures. The corresponding results for total knee arthroplasty were non-significant.
