Thrombosis prevention after total hip arthroplasty: a prospective, randomized trial comparing a mobile compression device with low-molecular-weight heparin
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2010 Mar;92(3):527-35Exclusive Author Interview
Dr. Colwell discusses his study assessing the safety of a mobile compression device for thrombo-prophylaxis.
386 patients (>18 yr) who had been scheduled for 389 total hip arthroplasties were randomized to receive thromboprophylaxis by either a mobile compression device (CECT SFT) or standardly accepted low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH).The CECT SFT demonstrated effective thromboprophylaxis with a better safety profile (fewer major bleeding events) compared to LMWH.
