Efficacy of Tracheal Traction Exercise for Prevention of Laryngopharyngeal Complications Following Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Five randomized controlled trials (542 patients) comparing tracheal traction exercise against control in patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included the incidence of dysphagia, pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and operative time. The incidence of dysphagia and operative time were significantly lower in the tracheal traction exercise group. VAS pain was similar between the two groups.
