Prevention of postoperative adhesions after flexor tendon repair with acellular dermal matrix in Zones III, IV, and V of the hand: A randomized controlled (CONSORT-compliant) trial.

Twenty five patients with an acute single-digit flexor tendon injury in Zone III, IV or V undergoing a flexor tendon repair were randomized to receive acellular dermal matrix (n=13) or no additional treatment (n=12) for the prevention of post-operative flexor tendon adhesion and facilitation of functional recovery. Outcomes of interest included functional outcomes (Buck-Gramcko II score), patient satisfaction, and the incidence of complications. Outcomes were assessed at 12 months post-operation. Results revealed significantly better functional scores and patient satisfaction scores in the acellular dermal matrix group. There were no differences in complications between the two groups.
