What Are the Long-term Outcomes for COVID-19 Survivors? A Review of Evidence .

As the pandemic evolves, growing attention is being paid to the long-term health effects of COVID-19. Evidence continues to show that many people recovering from COVID-19 face lingering challenges well beyond the acute phase. Earlier work highlighted symptoms lasting up to 6 months, and newer studies now extend that picture past the one-year mark. While many survivors do improve over time, a subset continue to report issues such as reduced quality of life, ongoing fatigue, breathlessness, and persistent lung diffusion or radiographic abnormalities. Even at 12 months, problems like mobility limitations, anxiety, and sleep or cognitive difficulties remain common for some individuals. These findings underscore the importance of long-term follow-up to better understand how post-COVID effects evolve and how care strategies can better support those still feeling the impact of the disease.
