Use of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) for Management of Pain Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review .

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is widely used to manage pain, but how effective is it after total knee arthroplasty (TKA)? Evidence was systematically reviews six randomized controlled trials exploring TENS for postoperative pain and opioid use in TKA patients. Despite decades of use, the studies revealed substantial variation in TENS protocols, dosing, and follow-up timing, making pooled analysis unfeasible. A narrative synthesis examined pain and opioid outcomes, with findings offering limited clarity. This report highlights the need for more rigorous and standardized research on TENS in the post-TKA setting.
