Interpreting a forest plot is an essential skill in evidence-based orthopaedics, particularly when navigating meta-analyses that pool findings across studies. A forest plot lays out study details, group data, weights, numerical effects, and a visual summary. Continuous outcomes show means and standard deviations, while binary outcomes list events. Squares mark study estimates, horizontal lines show confidence intervals, and a diamond reflects the pooled effect. Understanding weighting, the line of no effect, and signs of heterogeneity—especially the I² value and related p-value—helps determine whether pooled results are meaningful. Regular practice strengthens confidence in judging treatment effects and the certainty of the underlying evidence.
