OE Journal. 2021;9(7):3We examine the evolving trajectory of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a particular focus on the third wave and its deadly resurgence in many regions, including Europe, Canada, and the United States. It reflects on historical pandemic wave patterns—especially the 1918 influenza pandemic—to highlight how the combination of viral mutations, public fatigue, poor planning, and inconsistent implementation of health measures continues to fuel new outbreaks. The piece explores the impact of vaccine distribution, social behavior, and health inequities, and warns of further waves unless coordinated, sustained public health interventions are applied.
